On Tuesday, San Francisco police officers announced they apprehended two suspects — one of whom is a teen — tied to two separate fatal shootings in San Francisco’s Hunters Point and Potrero Hill neighborhoods.
The arrests follow three homicides in San Francisco’s southeast District 10 this month alone, an uptick in a region of the city where gun violence has dropped dramatically over the past several years.
SFPD announced on Tuesday that Jorge Alberto Mendoza-Hernandez, 44, was arrested on Oct. 15 for the death of Jose Juan Ramirez-Sanchez, who was shot and killed on Oct. 1 in Hunters Point.
Mendoza-Hernandez was found and arrested on the 600 block of Gilman Ave, at Candlestick State Park — three miles away from where Ramirez-Sanchez was killed on Thomas Ave. At the time of Ramirez-Sanchez’s death, two suspects were identified. Only one, Mendoza-Hernandez, has so far been apprehended.
Officers announced that another arrest was made in connection to a separate fatal shooting on October 16 at Potrero Hill Terrace and Annex, a public housing complex.
The next day, on Oct. 17, officers obtained a search warrant and arrested a juvenile male at the housing complex, after SFPD said they found evidence of a homicide.
