Mission Local strives for truth, transparency and fairness in all our reporting. We recognize our responsibility to correct factual errors and to do so promptly and prominently.
When we are alerted to mistakes, we work quickly to correct them, and note the correction within the story. If you find an error in our reporting, please email editors@missionlocal.com. We will be in touch.
Here is how we handle corrections:
- We first determine whether we have made an error by contacting the reporters and editors involved. If we did, a correction is warranted, and we make changes to the article itself and append a correction to the bottom.
- Occasionally, if the correction is significant enough, it will appear at the top of the article.
- For small typos, we make corrections without noting the changes. We also make copy edits after publication without noting the changes.
For breaking news stories, we often add a disclaimer that news is “developing,” and we may edit an article to note new facts where the situation is changing rapidly. In such cases, articles do not usually require a note that the substance of the article has changed. In almost all such cases, changes are made within hours of the original publication.
