San Francisco Police Department Chief Derrick Lew this evening sent a department-wide email announcing, “with heavy hearts,” the deaths of SFPD veterans Kevin and Ann Mannix, a married couple. Kevin was a sergeant until 2018 and Ann retired as a deputy chief of the department in 2021.

They appear to have been two of three victims of a triple shooting in Marin County earlier Sunday evening. The Mannix family owned a home on the same tiny street in unincorporated Mill Valley that was the site of this evening’s shooting.

Miguel Almaguer, the public information officer for the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, said that a 911 call was made shortly after 5 p.m. regarding shots fired in a home. “Our deputies arrived on the scene within a few minutes and were able to reach the reporting party. She made her way outside of the property.”

Deputies entered the home and found three deceased people. Almaguer said deputies are presently awaiting a search warrant that would enable them to investigate further.

While the Marin County sheriff and coroner have not yet released the victims’ identities, Mission Local is informed that Kevin and Ann Mannix were among them.

Kevin Mannix retired as a sergeant at Taraval Station in 2018. Ann Mannix was the first woman to make the SFPD SWAT team and the first woman to lead it — she is, to date, the only woman to ever serve on the SFPD SWAT team. The fourth-generation San Franciscans ascended to deputy chief overseeing special operations and retired in 2021.

“Please keep their family in your prayers,” reads Lew’s email.
