The Cliff House, a popular oceanfront dining establishment with both locals and tourists, was ordered to close after Tuesday night’s dinner service for the duration of the government shutdown.
The Cliff House is located within a national park — the Golden Gate National Recreation Area — and while it is a private business, it is a concessionary of the park service and subject to the partial federal shutdown. The 150-year-old restaurant defiantly stayed open last week after initially being ordered to close up shop, but park officials eventually caught wind of the sneakiness.
Employees and visitors were miffed, lamenting loss of revenue as well as that of prime sunset-viewing. Read more here.
