Things are hot around here, despite the chilly temps: this morning, firefighters put out a one-alarm fire on Bryant between 19th and 20th. No one was hurt. And police are questioning civil engineer Jimmy Jen about his uncanny and unfortunate relationship with flame. He’s been involved with at least four different house fires in the city, including one in the Mission in 1990. The latest, Thursday morning on Felton Street, left a firefighter in critical condition. Police are questioning Jen but say they don’t have enough to charge him with arson. Jen says the whole thing’s bunk.
The Mission Anti-Displacement Coalition had planned a rally today on behalf of six families whose landlord wanted to raise rent $800, but the landlord agreed to negotiate—rally cancelled.
Displacement is one story that never ends and American Apparel is another. AA posted this note on the window at 988 Valencia, offering a 25 percent discount for Mission residents. Folks are divided about whether it’s a classy move or a fake one. Thanks, MissionMission.
