A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle near Mission and Park streets in Bernal Heights Saturday night.
The driver involved fled the scene and has not been located, San Francisco police said.
“At approximately 8:18 p.m., officers responded to Mission and Park streets regarding a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian,” the San Francisco Police Department wrote in a statement.
“Officers arrived on scene and located an injured pedestrian. Officers rendered aid and medics arrived on scene and transported the pedestrian to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. The vehicle and driver involved did not remain at the scene.”
This collision comes after six people were injured in a three-vehicle collision last night at Park Presidio Boulevard and California Street.
A July report from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency found that severe injury collisions in the first half of 2026 had increased by around 8 percent compared to the same period last year. So far this year, there have been over 300 traffic crashes resulting in injuries involving pedestrians.

Perhaps SF should consider more speed cameras and allow SFPD to make pretext stops. All of the Mission District, whether Mission/South Van Ness/Folsom/Harrison are rife with traffic violations and speeding, and that behavior is bleeding into neighboring districts. But because it’s Bernal and not the Mission, Fielder might care but even that’s an assumption she’s not sleeping on the job again.

it is necessary for drivers to have compassion and sympathy for pedestrains to stop the injuries and deaths.
No, better street design is needed. The moment a person gets behind the wheel it’s total lizard-brain ‘out of my way, I’m a motorist!’ Mission should be red-transit-lane striped all the way to Daly City and in the long term a light-rail trackway should go on this street. It’s not redundant with BART because there are only two stations on the whole length of Mission. It’s the only good way to keep people moving and cars slowing down.
