Good afternoon!

Well, that’s interesting. It turns out that Walgreens, where alleged shoplifter Banko Brown was shot and killed by a security guard last month, has a direct line to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and her senior staff through the anti-shoplifting trade group ALTO USA. Joe Rivano Barros looks into Jenkins’ close relationship with one of Alto’s lead attorneys, a former colleague who now represents the interests of Walgreens to the DA’s office.

Down on 5th and Mission today writers at the San Francisco Chronicle and SF Gate walked off the job in a “lunch-out,” pushing for a new contract after negotiations have stalled. Wages, say the writers, remain so low that about two dozen experienced writers and reporters have left in the last two years.

Earlier this morning, one person was killed and five injured after a chase by San Francisco police pursuing a stolen DPW pick-up truck ended in a crash at the 16th and Potrero bus stop this morning.

More soon,

Sara
