About forty owners of Valencia St. businesses stood in the center bike lane yesterday to protest the lane and demand a change from SFMTA. They say it makes deliveries harder, discourages customers, and does not protect cyclists.
The Monster or the Marvel? Mission Housing and MEDA have won the city contract to develop 350 units of affordable housing at the 16th St. plaza. The site has been the focus of community battles against market-rate development for over a decade.
Those 350 units will be a help for the city’s housing plan, passed yesterday by the Board of Supervisors just in time to avoid state penalties. SF is supposed to build 82,000 homes, 46,ooo of them affordable, in the next eight years.
Hundreds of SF State faculty, students, and union members joined in a one-day statewide strike, asking for educator pay increases and “manageable workloads.” Strikes took place this week at the largest of CSU’s campuses, and a more extensive strike is planned for January if negotiations fail.
