The Chronicle has an interview with the O.G. broke-ass himself, Broke-Ass Stuart, on living large on the shoestring in the city. As someone who scrounges meals off his fellow reporters – talk about the blind robbing the blind – I can appreciate this. He outlines a bit of his philosophy in the interview, but why not read his goddamn website yourself?
Meanwhile, the stage is set for a Sausage Showdown (I had to say it) in the Mission, with Rosamunde Sausages set to open up a location near Arguello Cafe on Mission Street. (Thanks, Mission Mission)
And holy rotten guacamole, Batman, apparently 345 restaurants in the city have lost their Department of Public Health licenses after City Attorney Dennis Herrera declared that shady practices were involved in the issuing of the licenses, including the passing of cheat sheets before and during health tests. The list of restaurants includes several culinary stars of the Mission.
While you might have known that Mayor Gavin Newsom is in Mexico (perhaps in a preemptory dodging of criminal charges?) we also hope that District 9 Supervisor David Campos is enjoying his trip south of the border as well. Perhaps they’ll meet in a grand Mexican standoff over the proposed changes to the Sanctuary city policy.
Last, the Mission is fairly represented in 7×7 magazine’s list of the city’s top 20 burgers, with Spork, Mission Beach Cafe, and Luna Park all making the list. I can’t afford to spend more than $12 $10 $8 on a burger, so I wouldn’t know.
