Mamacoatl has been working as a healer and a musician in the Mission District for years, melding the music and traditions of Mexico and California.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of La PeƱa de Sur, a music event where people from Latin America share the stage. This yearās event will feature Alfonso Maya from Mexico, accompanied by Mission musicians Fernando Meza, David Pinto, Dan Howard and Axel Herrera. It will also feature Alfredo Gomez, Maria Loreto, Marta Sevilla and Mamacoatl.
La PeƱa de Sur takes place July 21, starting at 7 p.m., at the Mission Cultural Center For Latino Arts.
