Are you still looking for where to spend this Halloweekend? Look no further. This reporter has compiled a list of events going on in the Tenderloin.ย
First up: Tonight, Friday, Oct. 30, Emperor Nortonโs Boozeland at 510 Larkin St. will turn up the volume and turn down the lights for โLa Invasion De Los Muertos,โ a DJ event hosted by Sonido Killer and Disco Movil Salazar. The show goes from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. and the first 10 people to show up will get a free drink.
Itโs $5 to get in the door, and attendees must be over 21 years old. Costumes and dancing shoes are a must.
As for family-friendly Halloween events, Iโve got you covered. The Salvation Army Kroc Center at 240 Turk St. is hosting a Tenderloin Fall Family Festival Friday, Oct. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. The event isย free.ย
There will be trick-or-treating, food, games, prizes, free books for kids and a bounce house.
And donโt forget your costumes! A costume contest for everyone 17 and younger starts at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 1, the Tenderloin will come alive for its Dรญa De Los Muertos street fair. The traditional Mexican holiday is celebrated every year as a way to remember and honor loved ones who have died, and to connect the living and the dead through ritual.
The festival will take place along Golden Gate Avenue, on the three city blocks between Larkin and Jones streets. As you walk, youโll find food from local vendors, two different stages where eight musical groups will play hour-long sets and a giant family zone with free pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses and bumper cars.
The event runs from 2 to 8 p.m. and is free. Itโs presented by Tenderloin Community Benefit District and Into The Streets, with funding provided by Civic Joy Fund, UC Law San Francisco, and the Larkin Street Revival.
Tip: If I were you, Iโd show up hungry. Well-known Tenderloin restaurants, including Ometepe Company/Two Paws, CTK Empanadas, Tonantzin Mexican Cuisine, Mi Comedor, El Huarache Loco, Cafe Jarocha, and Estrellitaโs Snacks will be there.ย
