A woman was killed at a residence near 22nd Avenue and Santiago Street in the Sunset on Tuesday night, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

A male suspect was taken into custody, KRON4 reported

The shooting happened near McCoppin Square, Lincoln High School and the Taraval Police Station on 24th Avenue.

Officers responded to a residence located on the 2200 block of 22nd Avenue regarding a shooting around 10:43 p.m. and found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound, SFPD wrote in a statement.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures, but the victim died at the hospital. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.

Supervisor Alan Wong, who represents the area, wrote in a statement that “early information suggests this may not have been an intentional act.”

“It does not lessen the impact of this loss on family, friends, and neighbors,” Wong wrote. “My office stands ready to support the community and connect anyone in need with available resources.”

This is the 11th homicide in San Francisco this year, and the first in the Sunset District, according to the police crime dashboard. Around the same time on Tuesday night, another shooting in Sunnydale killed a man in the Ingleside District.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Anyone with information should contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
