Students across San Francisco Unified School District go back to school on Aug. 17. For parents, the end of summer break can spell a new set of logistical challenges.

Neighborhood organization Mission Loterรญa will host a back to school resource fair at both Mission Street BART plazas on Saturday, August 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free backpacks and school supplies, as well as music and all-ages activities.
The event, called โSรกbado Gigante,โ is free and open to the public. Find more information here.
Also Saturday, Pacific Islander community nonprofit All My Usos will host a Family Day Barbecue at Gilman Playground in Hunters Point. There will be school supplies, haircuts, live performances and more. Register here.
Barbers at Westside Cuts and Styles, at 1019 Divisadero St. near Golden Gate Avenue, are offering free haircuts and school supplies on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year marks barber Nathan Thornerโs 17th organizing the giveaway day event, he wrote on Instagram.ย
Richmond District church NationTakers Ministries, at 856 Cabrillo St. and 10th Avenue, will host a backpack and school supplies giveaway, at 10:30 a.m. before Sunday service Aug. 16. Sign up here.
Also Sunday, Aug. 16, nonprofit Us4Us will host a backpack giveaway, at the South East Community Center at 1550 Evans Ave. There will be free food, backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, music and more. Register here.ย
Next week, on Saturday, Aug. 22, the African American Art & Culture Complex at 762 Fulton Street near Webster Street, will host a back to school book fair. Register here, and check back for more details in the coming days.
