Jeremy Rene Reyes, a 20-year-old after-school worker at Everett Middle School who allegedly sexually abused a child, was arraigned today, pleading not guilty to all charges, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

Reyes was charged with seven felonies, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, sexual battery and three counts of committing a lewd act upon a child, according to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office. He was also charged with sexual battery.

Reyes was with Mission Graduates’ after-school program, and was arrested last Tuesday at the school. Everett’s administration had contacted the San Francisco Police Department after receiving a report of inappropriate contact between an adult and a student, according to the San Francisco Unified School District.

Everett Middle School is providing support to the affected student and their family members, according to the school district. The DA’s office victim services units will also work closely with the survivor and family to help navigate the criminal justice system.

The police department is still actively investigating the case, according to the District Attorney’s Office, which had moved to detain Reyes pending trial, due to the public safety risks he poses. He was being held without bail.

Reyes’ next court appearance will be March 22 at 9 a.m for a preliminary hearing of the case. Neither the San Francisco Unified School District nor Mission Graduates immediately responded to requests for comments; it is unclear whether the after-school program has been affected by the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.  You may remain anonymous.

  1. Sexual abuse in California public schools is beginning to make the Catholic Church look like amateurs. That legislators are dead silent on this disaster is unbelievable. Would be awesome if the media would expose the extent of the problem, but there is relative silence there too…and silencing of voices that point it out…
