While SF Gate reported that hundreds in Oakland marched in support of those in Ferguson, Mo. protesting the August 9 shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager, two dozen or so ended up at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the 24th Street BART Plaza. One of the protesters said they began earlier in the evening downtown at Union Square.

The speakers urged those gathered at the plaza to support Friday’s March in memory of Alex Nieto that begins at noon on Bernal Hill where Nieto was shot and killed by police officers on March 22.

Oakland always goes overboard on these things, whereas SF folks have a much more refined and nuanced world view.

Smashing up your own community because of something that happened 2,000 miles away doesn’t make much sense to smart, educated, civilized people.

I’m surprised even 24 people showed up.
