After a fire broke out this past Saturday above the bar Truck on 15th and Folsom, a man was injured while trying to stop the blaze. Some gas cans caught fire, but serious damage was averted when the resident attempted to carry the burning cans out of the building. A TCB bike courier who goes by the name DJ Honeycutt, the man was badly burned when gas splashed onto his arms and legs. Honeycutt is apparently uninsured, and a donation page has been set up by TCB to help with his medical bills.
Recognizing the truly important things in life, the Bold Italic has assembled a list of the best restrooms in San Francisco. Taking a seat of honor on the list is the colorful beach-themed water closet at local restaurant Loló. Finally, a neighborhood fixture we can all be proud of. In a week full of interesting maps, we’ve found another. A UC Berkeley grad student has created an interactive map using data on commuting and traffic from major metros. The map allows you to sort by income levels and time of day. The inevitable conclusion? Most of the short trips taken through the city during the day are being made by people with high incomes and many car trips are between places with poor transit. Also, despite its ideal weather and culture of sustainability, San Francisco appears to feature a surprising lack of bike commuters. Go play with the map here (select “Bay Area” at the top left).
