Firefighters responded to a fire in two Noe Valley apartment buildings on Monday.

Officials said the cause of the two-alarm fire is unknown, but that it originated between 276 and 280 Jersey St. at around 2:40 pm.

Officials said residents were evacuated and no one was injured. Lieutenant Kirk Yin said that displaced residents were speaking with Red Cross representatives to organize temporary housing.

Water gushed down the street as dozens of firefighters contained the blaze. They could be seen inside both buildings and on the roof of 276 Jersey.

Neighbors lined the streets to watch. Many said it appeared the fire had been contained.

“I never saw a whole lot of flames,” said neighbor Richard Juhl, who lives around the corner. “I smelled it, that’s how I got alerted.”

One neighbor who lives across from the buildings, Priscilla Guastavino, said that one of the buildings housed a family with a baby. Lieutenant Rob Kaprosch said that family was not home at time of the fire.

A firefighter could be seen carrying a folded-up baby stroller from that building.
