The San Fran at Bite Me Sandwiches. Chicken breast and avocado on a sourdough roll — yum! It’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve found in my limited exploration of sandwich shops in the Mission. However, they are awful at getting orders right. I always ask for no bacon, no mustard, and half the time I have to spend five minutes pulling bacon out of my sandwich. If the sandwich wasn’t so good, I probably wouldn’t keep going back. — Jamie Goldberg
The enchiladas rojas with New Mexican chili at Regalito. No way did this taste like New Mexican chili, which I grew up on and pick up regularly from New Mexico. It was bitter, not rich. Loved the whole fried tortillas they give with the guacamole, but the latter needed a lot more garlic, jalapeño and lime juice. — Lydia Chávez
I had a Double Whammy from the Doc’s of the Bay truck at around 10 p.m. last Thursday. I didn’t know what it was, but the description said french fries and green beans. It’s a quick snack, a healthy combination of fast food and veggies, and inexpensive. This truck is one of the many that will start flooding the Mission with the new permit law. — Andrea Valencia
Pork belly banh mi at Rice Paper Scissors. If they pop up somewhere and you want to try this sandwich — or anything else they sell, for that matter — go on the early side; they sell out quickly. When you try their pork belly banh mi, you’ll understand why. It’s great French bread, perfectly cooked pork belly, crispy shredded carrots and paté — the best Vietnamese sandwiches I’ve had in the city so far. — Hélène Goupil
The hamachi and avocado appetizer at Lot 7 on Valencia. This and the fish chowder, as well as the beet and arugula salad, add up to some of the best food I’ve eaten in at least a month. As Mark said, “Enjoy it, because in a few weeks we won’t be able to get in here.” I did. — Lydia Chávez
