The San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is now recruiting volunteers for its annual Macy’s holiday window display on Union Square. The event promotes pet adoptions and helps raise money for the organization.

Volunteer shifts are between two and two and a half hours long, and can take place any time between 9:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. If you’re interested in helping out, you can register online at www.sfspca.org/holiday, call 415-554-3008 or send an e-mail to windowsvolunteer@sfspca.org.

A swap meet aficionado, the Mission’s outdoor markets and Latino community remind Alicia of her family’s weekly swap meet outings at home, in southeast Los Angeles, where she is always on the lookout for hidden treasures.
