Dolores Park-goers wooed their favorite parks Saturday afternoon by writing them love letters at the Neighborhood Parks Council’s second annual Love Letters to Parks.

The council, along with neighborhood groups such as Dolores Park Works, Friends of Dolores Park Playground and Dolores Park Dogs, encouraged people to show appreciation for the benefits that “urban backyards” provide to the public.

The letters showed love for parks as close as Dolores and as distant as Yosemite. Some letters recalled memorable moments shared in the park, others complimented a park’s enjoyable features.

Attendees were young and old, and some were four-legged and furry. District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener showed up to make his love for Dolores Park official.

The Valentine’s Day cards will be on display at Dolores Park Café, Fayes Video, Bi-Rite, Lilah Belle’s and Jeffery’s Pet Foods. Some letters were distributed to nearby groups also enjoying the sunny day at Dolores.

The council hopes the event will help people realize how precious a clean and safe neighborhood park can be, as well as the importance of supporting future improvements to Dolores Park.
