UPDATE @ 3:09  Mission Mission has a post on Kirt Fitzpatrick winning in Mountain Bike Nationals and the Mission resident offers some simple tips.

One reader who works at for non-profits said that now that the state wants to rely on foundations to take care of social services, some have suggested a  state logo of Blanche DuBois with a bottle of Southern Comfort and a motto of “We’ve always relied on the kindness of strangers.”

For Safari users, Amanda Martinez’s feature is on Mission District crime figures and they don’t look good especially for black males.

See Valencia this Saturday and run into  Mission Mission drunk in costume or at least watching others.

The Retroblog’s got a good post on Thrift Shops in the Mission.  One of their favorites is x21 Vintage as well.

SF Business Times has another round up on SF restaurants reminding us of Charles Phan of the Slanted Door and his promise to return to the hood. The Slanted Door, which closed on Valencia Street in 2002 to reopen after a brief stop downtown at the Ferry Building, will open a new Pacific Heights place in August. Phan’s owned in the building for three years, according to the SF Business Times, but go there to read the details.

Meanwhile, three storefronts at 580, 582 and 584 Valencia have been owned by Phan for at least seven years and he has kept them off the market to open a renovated and expanded Slanted Door. The three ugly maidens of Valencia, 580, 582 and 584, wait for Prince Phan to return—as promised and because the neighborhood misses his wonderful meals.
