Every so often, one of us here at Mission Loc@l looks up at the sky and wonders what the heck is going on with the roof deck at Medjool. I mean, no matter what you think about the bar or its owner, Gus Murad, it’s weird that nothing has happened in the two months since the Chron reported that the deck (according to city officials whose job it is to know these things) is illegal. Planner Craig Nikitas said today that nothing’s changed since Mission Loc@l last checked in a few weeks ago: the city owes Murad a letter explaining options for saving the deck, which will likely be a hearing before the Board of Appeals — a hearing that can’t happen till the letter is sent. “I’ve been swamped,” said Nikitas, by way of explanation.

Meanwhile, the Save Medjool Facebook group has amassed some 1,076 members. The most recent comment there is from someone named Dale: “Leave politics out of business!!!”

Oh, Dale. If only.

In less-jaded news, the Examiner had a pretty glowing profile of La Cocina today. And the Wizard of Oz, don’t forget, plays tomorrow — Thursday — at the Roxie.  Follow the yellow brick road …
