Welcome back to our “Meet the Candidates” series, where the congressional candidates respond to a question in 100 words or less. Answers will be published every Monday.
CA-11, the congressional district that Connie Chan and Scott Wiener are running to represent, includes most of San Francisco. Some southern neighborhoods (the Excelsior, Portola, Visitacion Valley and Ingleside) are a part of a neighboring district.
What do the two San Francisco congressional candidates think of our mayor? That’s what we asked them this week. Whoever replaces Nancy Pelosi as the city’s representative will work with the mayor at times.
Though Mayor Daniel Lurie is more ideologically aligned with Scott Wiener, he has not (yet) endorsed either candidate in the race.
This week’s question: How would you rate Daniel Lurie’s performance as mayor so far? Would you support him for reelection? (The candidates are color coded based on the second question.)

Mayor Lurie is doing a phenomenal job shepherding our city’s strong recovery from the pandemic. The Mayor and I partner closely on street conditions and public safety, housing, and funding for Muni, BART, and Caltrain to prevent service cuts. The Mayor is an invaluable partner, and he has my support.
When I get to Congress, I’ll continue to partner with the Mayor to ensure San Francisco has the federal resources it needs to continue the city’s economic recovery, ensure our transit systems thrive, and build the affordable homes we so desperately need.

As budget chair, I have worked with Mayor Daniel Lurie to protect essential services, strengthen our reserves against Trump’s cuts, and advance tenant protections. We have faced serious challenges and together provided strong, collaborative leadership at City Hall. While we have not agreed on every decision, I appreciate his pragmatic approach, his willingness to listen and his focus on getting results. The mayor hasn’t announced whether he’ll seek reelection, so my priority is continuing our partnership and delivering for San Franciscans now.
