‘Top Chef’ Alum Plans to Open Indian Restaurant on Mission Street

“Top Chef” alum Preeti Mistry has permits in the works to open an Indian restaurant, Juhu Beach Club, on Mission and Sycamore streets.

Mistry currently has a pop-up at La Victoria Bakery on 24th Street.

The building at 2141 Mission Street has housed two supermarkets. First it was Tony’s Grocery Market, then this year it became Quic Pic Grocery. The building is currently vacant. The use will have to be changed from grocery store to full-service restaurant, which means a trip to the Planning Commission is in order.

Grub Street SF caught up with Mistry in December to see what she has been cooking at La Victoria:

“I wanted to try out dinner since our permanent location will have lunch and dinner,” Mistry tells us. “I’m working on baby-back ribs in a vindaloo-style tangy BBQ sauce. And there’ll probably be more snacks like fried bhajia of all sorts, heartier entrées like biryani or braised lamb shanks … and I’ll try out some steamed Gujarati snacks like dhokla, khandvi, and patra, which are taro leaves, steamed and then fried with chickpeas and spices.”
