A woman escaped from her kidnapper on Sunday after being held captive in a van for several blocks, police reported.

The 19-year-old victim was walking on Mission Street at 1 a.m. when a 25-year-old man approached her at gunpoint. As he dragged her to a brown van parked nearby, he threatened to shoot her, she told police.

The suspect then threw the victim into the back of the van and tried to force her to swallow a pill, but she was able to resist.

With the victim in the back of the van, the suspect drove for several blocks. When the van stopped briefly at 17th and Kansas streets, the woman opened the door, jumped out and fled on foot.

The victim contacted police immediately, but they were unable to find the suspect or the van.
