Ah Saturday and the opportunity to sleep in.  Well, for those of you who are up and use Safari, here’s how you get to our feature on the senior clinic that is about to close.

A series of cool pix on Mission Mission on a coke bottle spill, etc.

Interesting post on the Gray Panthers Blog. Here’s just one bit of it,

“Bay Area Legal Aid and the Western Center on Law and Poverty are representing three San Francisco residents who say those fees violate federal and state mandates, which stipulate that the city must provide free health care to those who can’t afford to pay.”

There’s a lawsuit against the city’s Healthy San Francisco and worth reading,  considering the public debate on health care.

And WHAT!! Mission Loc@l learns from a news post that from Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, it’s losing its assistant managng editors to the Online Journalism Association??? How innocently Armand Emamdjomeh and Kate Kilpatrick smile out from their photos.  And yes, the Online News Association is coming to town.

I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

As founder and an editor at ML, I've been trying to figure out how to make my interest in local news sustainable. If Mission Local is a model, the answer might be that you - the readers - reward steady and smart content. As a thank you for that support we work every day to make our content even better.
