BY STEFANIA ROUSSELLE
Brian Goggin, the final artist chosen to compete for the Valencia Streetscape art project, has already created numerous public art works. “Language of the Birds” is in North Beach and represents flying luminous books that take off like birds. “Defenestration,” is an installation in which cast-off furniture becomes a sculptural mural on an abandoned hotel on the corner of Sixth and Howard streets.
You can actually meet all three artists on July 23 from 9.30 am to 12.30 am at the Mission Police Station at 630 Valencia Street. In the meantime you can get a sense of each artist’s work.

Brian , Wonderful to see you and your work in progress!!! Bravo!!!
I’m keeping my fingers cross for you Brian and hoping your piece will portray a little of the Latino roots of the Mission District.

[...] Brian Goggin, perhaps the most recognizable artist of the four because he has several public art works sprinkled throughout San Francisco, offered Faro. It’s a sculptural pole, peaking like a “blade of grass” to light the street at night. At the top of the pole is a colorful sculpture in the form of a boat’s bulkhead made of latticed, recycled bike frames. Inside, bike lights will become a “jewel like” cluster. Solar powered, at night the wind will help them flicker blue, green and yellow on the street. [...]
