On our next stop, Mission Wheels rolled (okay, walked) into a worker-owned cooperative that aims to sell new and used bikes to everyday riders. Located on 14th and Guerrero, Box Dog Bikes is owned by six workers who have worked together for the last five years. Box Dog Bikes has watched a fair number of businesses coming on and off the block: Record Collector, Needles and Pens, a Clothing Store Collective and others have opened and closed in the last five years. The owners of Box Dog Bikes say their survival strategy is to stay in tune with the Mission’s bicycling community.
