Good afternoon! Just a couple stories for you:

Well, the pilot redesign of Valencia Street was approved yesterday by unanimous vote of the SFMTA board, with more than half the public comment in support of the plan. In addition to moving bikeways to the center of the road, the plan will ban left turns, add loading zones and take away 70  parking spaces on Valencia Street between 15th to 23rd. Implementation will begin by the end of the month.

For nearly eight years, the long-time executive director of the San Jose Police Officers Association, Joanne Segovia, was allegedly running an international drug ring out of her home and the POA office, according to charging documents from the feds. And during that period, Mission Local found, one of the largest recipients of donations from the SJPOA was its fellow Bay Area police union — the San Francisco Police Officers Association

The San Jose POA sent $45,000 to the San Francisco POA between late 2015 and January 2023, during the period Segovia was allegedly importing fentanyl and other opiods. Additionally, it contributed $24,000 to the 2019 political action committee supporting Suzy Loftus in the San Francisco DA’s race against Chesa Boudin, and $1000 to a Boudin recall PAC. On the statewide level, the SJPOA also made significant donations to law-and-order candidates and causes. But at home, the SJPOA is part of a center-left and labor coalition, and was a major contributor to center-left South Bay politicans.

More soon,

Sara
