After a long back-and-forth, state legislators passed a bill by Sen. Scott Weiner allowing the SFPD to enforce rules against street vending in San Francisco. Oscar Palma explains how the new legislation will work, and who’ll be affected.
The street vendors came right back after two businesses were raided on Mission and 16th yesterday, and SFPD officers hauled away what appeared to be a dozen gambling machines. “Everyone knew what was going on there,” said a bystander.
City officials plan to remove a series of benches and planters on Taylor Street, just months after they were installed. Eleni Balakrishnan explores why we can’t have nice things in the Tenderloin.
A 16-year-old boy was held in the S.F. County Jail for almost three weeks after he allegedly gave police a false name and birthdate. The city took 20 days to verify that he is a minor, though his father provided a birth certificate and other documents after the boyโs arrest.
