Good afternoon!

The S.F. Democratic Party, writes Joe Eskenazi, is currently “axles up in a ditch.” Joe and Junyao Yang asked every San Francisco politician if Chair Nancy Tung should step down. See who responded, who dodged the question, and who sent a text message with the word โ€œNoโ€ swirling around the screen like confetti.

At a hearing yesterday Supervisors Bilal Mahmood, Rafael Mandelman, and Jackie Fielder all questioned Mayor Daniel Lurie‘s crackdowns on drug markets, saying they simply pushed the problem into each other’s districts. Andrea Jimรฉnez reports that SFPD representatives said they’re aware theyโ€™re playing whack-a-mole.

At a separate hearing, writes Io Yeh Gilman, the SFPD told supervisors it was committed to improving its process for investigating sex crimes. The SFPDโ€™s clearance rate for rape cases now sits at 14 percent, half the national average.

Andres Jimenez Larios has a fascinating look at issues of consent, boundaries, unwanted touching and sexual assault among gay men in the city. Read what happens when “no” is interpreted as “playing hard to get.”

More soon,

Sara
