He’s no “yes man.” Max Carter-Oberstone, appointed in 2021 by London Breed to the San Francisco Police Commission, regularly defies the mayor to follow his own moral compass. He did it again this week, opposing the police department’s effort to usurp the civilian commission’s authority.
The California attorney general will not pursue the homicide case against former San Francisco police officer Christopher Samayoa, who shot and killed carjacking suspect Keita OโNeil in 2017, Mission Local has learned.ย The case was brought in 2020 by former DA Chesa Boudin. Boudin’s successor Brooke Jenkins had earlier declined to pursue it.
Recognizing and reversing potentially fatal opioid overdoses with Narcan was the subject of a workshop held by the Department of Public Health this week. About half of the city’s overdose deaths occur in the Tenderloin, SOMA and the Mission, according to Eileen Loughran, director of DPHโs Office of Overdose Prevention.
