Good afternoon!

Darshini Patel, progressive District 8 supervisorial candidate, told Joe Eskenazi that she did not consent to being endorsed by GrowSF. Check out how the moderate, tech-backed big-money group is spending “six figures” to support her and attack Gary McCoyโ€”as Patel said, “What the hell?”

For back story, read Io Yeh Gilman on the ranked-choice alliance formed last month by Patel and McCoy, who are both advocates of harm reduction and share positions on Flock cameras, policing, and upzoning.

As the Golden State Valkyries head into their second finals game against the Atlanta Dream, Meg Shutzer has a recap of the lessons from Game 1. Among them: A way-deep bench, fans’ free tailgate parties supporting trans kids, and the strategic superpowers of Gabby Williams, math nerd!

If you missed it yesterday, do read the obituary of Beverly Dahlen, the influential experimental poet. Andrea Jimรฉnez writes about the Bernal Heights resident known for her “difficult” poetry and her kindness, who died last month at 91.

More soon,

Sara
