You may know the amazing photos of Walter Mackins from our SNAPS feature, but the former cabbie has been documenting his home town of San Francisco for decades. Joe Eskenazi has a beautiful column about Walter, his work, and the city he loves.

Speaking of the soul of the city, Andrew Gilbert has an appreciation of the Hammond B3 organ,  an old-school analog instrument that’s making a resurgence in local clubs and bars.

In election news, Io Yeh Gilman asks congressional candidates Connie Chan and Scott Wiener if they support a moratorium on building data centers.

And Marina Newman is following the story of the Bayview shelter workers who allegedly aided a man who shot a police officer. The DA charged the two workers today with accessory after the fact and obstructing and delaying a police officer.

Girls on the Run Bay Area has been empowering youth through running, mentorship, and a nationally recognized confidence-building curriculum for over 20 years. The afterschool program inspires participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others. 

The GOTR Bay Area fall program runs from September to September to November with a celebratory 5K on November 14, offering programs for 3rd–8th grade students. Register for the fall season here!
