Police arrested a man suspected of committing a fatal hit-and-run on Saturday in San Francisco, near Lafayette park.

The collision took place in the early morning of Oct. 24, at Franklin and Pine Streets. The victim, an adult male who has not yet been publicly identified, was riding a motorized scooter at the time of the collision, according to police.

Officers from Northern Station arrived at approximately 5:08 a.m. but were unable to locate the driver. First responders delivered aid and the victim was transported to the hospital where he later died.

According to police radio from Saturday morning, the driver was in a Black SUV and fled the scene immediately.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, SFPD’s traffic investigation and sideshow response units located the vehicle in San Rafael.

With assistance from San Rafael police, SFPD officers arrested a male suspect at that same location. The suspect was booked into County Jail No. 1 at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, according to the sheriff’s website, on charges of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene.

Another fatal hit-and-run took place the very next day, just eight blocks away. That collision killed former Glide safety monitor Justin Randle.

Although an arrest has been made this remains an open investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
