Chantel Brooks, a 36-year-old woman, went missing three weeks ago on July 17 after returning to Fairfield from the Le Nain Hotel, a single-room-occupancy hotel in the Tenderloin, where she works as a desk clerk.
She was seen leaving Le Nain Hotel at 12:20 a.m. on July 17, then around 1:45 a.m. she was seen leaving a CVS on Travis Boulevard in Fairfield. She was in the same clothing in both, according to the Fairfield Police Department. According to a flyer put up by Brooks’ family, her car’s license plate was last seen on 55th Avenue in East Oakland.
Michele Robinson, her niece, was in the Mission District on Friday afternoon putting up flyers.
The San Francisco, Fairfield and Oakland police are working together on the investigation, with Fairfield taking the lead, according to Brooks’ brothers, Omar Hasan and Kevin Robinson. Brooks is 5-feet-5-inches tall, with pierced ears and has a medium brown complexion, brown eyes and black hair, according to the flyer passed out and posted around San Francisco and the Bay by family.
The evening of her disappearance, she was wearing a red hoodie, gray sweatpants, a brown multicolored brimmed hat and brown fur boots. Brooks’ vehicle is a black 2021 Infiniti QX50 SUV with California license plate 9SBB134.
Robinson said that Brooks normally tells someone when she goes out of town. Because of work, she’s in San Francisco three to four times a week. But she is often all over the Bay Area, including Oakland, to visit friends. The brothers said that Oakland wasn’t a “focus.”
Robinson, who lives in San Francisco, last spoke to Brooks on his birthday, on June 12. Hasan more recently spoke with her nine days before she went missing, on July 8.
Hasan lives in Reno, Nevada, and the second he heard the news, he traveled to San Francisco and has been here since. Hasan and Robinson have been sleeping with their phones on their chest in case of any news.
Robinson said this isn’t like her. He said she normally is shopping and posting pictures and responsive on her phone. Her location, which Hasan has, was turned off around the time she went missing in mid-July.
“There’s just a lot of weird coincidences,” Robinson said.
Most recently, friends and family hosted a candlelight vigil last Sunday at the Fillmore & Turk Mini Park next to the Fillmore Street McDonald’s. They wore yellow, signifying missing persons.
