A man was left in critical condition after being struck by an off-duty San Francisco Police Department officer’s vehicle early Monday morning.
At 7:04 a.m., the officer, who was driving a personal vehicle, struck and injured the man at Card Alley and Emery Lane, behind Central Police Station in North Beach, according to a statement from the San Francisco Police Department.
The officer immediately stopped and contacted emergency responders. Officers arrived on scene before emergency personnel and rendered aid, the department said. The man was then transported to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of 4:16 p.m. according to the statement.
SFPD did not identify the man driving the vehicle, but the San Francisco Chronicle reported that sources on the scene identified him as Michael Petuya. Petuya is a third-generation police officer who has been working with the department for nearly 11 years. He also served on the San Francisco Police Officers Pride Alliance as a vice president.
The case is currently under investigation by the SFPD Traffic Collision Investigations Unit.

Was the guy ran over by him, he was hurt really bad.
what was he doing, where he wasn’t paying attention.
That is a very narrow and short street, much of it without sidewalks. I don’t understand how he would have accelerated and picked up enough speed to hurt anyone. Nobody should ever drive more than 5 m.p.h. there, if that.
Don’t make it an on duty event and have the city pay millions for this guys mistake. Don’t fudge the timekeeping to say he was going to court or OT.
