Things are heating up in the Richmond.
The past couple of days have seen clear skies and temperatures in the 70s. Our district supervisor, Connie Chan, is officially in the running for Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s seat in congress. And, as of course you know, Zendaya paid a visit to the neighborhood.
The World Cup also promises some heated matchups, and there are plenty of viewing options across the neighborhood. Read our full guide to the World Cup here.
Here’s what else is going on under the sun.

There’s a new masseur on the scene, at 2015 Balboa Street near 22nd Ave.
Richmond District resident Henry Bell opened A Stone in Light last month, after about a year of renovations to the site.
“I really want it to be a neighborhood space,” Bell said. “The needs people have aren’t often met at spas.”
Bell is currently the only massage therapist at the space, and said his work is “as grounded as possible in research-backed practices,” so don’t expect crystals or vibrational healing (no hate to those methods, Bell said, there’s just not a lot of research to back them).

Outer Richmond artist Harry Nordlinger will have a solo show up at Eye and Hand Society at 3425 Balboa St. near 35th Ave, opening June 20.
The show, dubbed “Spite House,” will feature a number of Nordlinger’s works, which include comic-book illustrations and figurative paintings that call to mind the works of Francis Bacon.
The opening of Nordlinger’s art show begins at 5 p.m., and will be accompanied by live music by local act Earthpig and Luvmongr, of Los Angeles.

Nordlinger also works at the Balboa Theater, where Pride month is in full swing.
Head in on Wednesday, June 17, for a screening of body horror film “Tetsuo: The Iron Man,” with live drag; “Querelle” on Monday, June, 22; “Bottoms” on June 25; and more.

Nearby, Rampant Wine is hosting a singles mixer night in collaboration with the organization Singles Under Pressure. Wine and desserts will be served, and you can RSVP here.
Rampant is also hosting an oyster-shucking workshop this week, and frequently hosts events with winemakers and chefs. Keep up with the Balboa Bacchanalia on Instagram.
There’s no doubt that the Richmond has become a hot spot for the enterprising pop-up entrepreneur.
Mission Local first reported that the maestros behind HI NRG, Clement Street’s wildly successful pop-up at High Treason wine bar, have secured a permanent space on Geary Boulevard, which they will move into in August.
We also first reported that the chef behind the Piedays pizza pop-up is making a similar August move to a space on inner Balboa.

Take it as no surprise then, that there are more pop-ups buzzing around the neighborhood. Case in point: Foozool Coffee is bringing seasonal coffee and tea drinks to Balboa Street and 19th Avenue on Sunday, June 14, at vintage store Uncommon SF at 1815 Balboa St.
Uncommon will be open for business, and there will be vendors selling jewelry and flowers. And, of course, a couple of DJ sets.
Foozool is an Iranian-owned business that has been popping up around the city for over a year now. Previous specialty espresso and tea drinks by Foozool have featured saffron cold foam, earl grey-infused oat milk, and mint shrub.
Two apparently unconnected grocery stores have apparently shuttered in recent weeks: Apple Land Produce at the corner of Clement Street and 10th Avenue, and Mainland Market at the corner of Geary Boulevard and 20th Avenue.
No new business registrations seem to have been filed for the sites, but renovation work could be seen underway at Apple Land this week.

We will follow both storefronts closely as more information is made available. But fret not for now: There are plenty of markets nearby on both corridors.
