One person is in life-threatening condition after a stabbing in the Mission District on Sunday afternoon, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

At around 3:15 p.m., police officers went to 19th and Mission streets to respond to a fight, the department said. Sunday was Carnaval in the Mission, and thousands thronged the streets all weekend. That intersection is on the parade route.

The officers found a victim “suffering from an apparent stab wound,” provided medical aid, and called an ambulance, the department said. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, SFPD said.

Officers subsequently found a suspect who matched a description they were given, SFPD said, and did so a few blocks away, at 24th and Mission streets. They developed probable cause and arrested the suspect. Charges are pending.

All information is preliminary. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
