New murals have appeared along the corridor, painted by muralist Rod Benson. The Los Angeles-based painter and University of California, Berkeley, alumnus is spending some time in the Bay Area, and wanted to honor the Bayview neighborhood with more murals of black characters.

โ€œYou can really change the feeling of the whole area with art that people enjoy,โ€ he said.

At Third and Thomas streets, youโ€™ll find a large, blue mural of Princess Tiana, with the phrase, โ€œThis canโ€™t be life โ€ฆ โ€ painted above her head.

Another near Third and Fairfax streets features Storm, a Marvel superhero, and a third features Huey Freeman, an animated character from “The Boondocks.”
