The nonprofit Economic Development on Third has just wrapped up a free tote-bag giveaway at businesses along the corridor.
Up next are Third Street tees in โ49ers gold.โ Those who shop at participating restaurants or businesses on Third, including Gumbo Social and Frank Grizzly, will receive a free tee with their purchase, screen printed by corridor manager Earl Shaddix.

The Bayview Opera House at Third and Newcomb streets has put up its Christmas tree. Stop by on Saturday, Dec. 20, to see the tree and for the Opera Houseโs โLove the City: Winter Wonderlandโ event from 12 to 6 p.m. Families can register for free tickets here.ย

After you stop by the Opera House, head over to 155 Jennings St. for a free Christmas tree. The Sunset Chinese Cultural District is giving away free trees on Dec. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at their Christmas Tree Mall.
Trees are first-come, first-served, and you can even get your tree tied to your car for free. To add to the giving spirit, there will be the opportunity to test drive an electric vehicle for free and, free tacos. For more details, visit www.aprisf.org.ย


New murals have appeared along the corridor, painted by muralist Rod Benson. The Los Angeles-based painter and University of California, Berkeley, alumnus is spending some time in the Bay Area, and wanted to honor the Bayview neighborhood with more murals of black characters.
โYou can really change the feeling of the whole area with art that people enjoy,โ he said.
At Third and Thomas streets, youโll find a large, blue mural of Princess Tiana, with the phrase, โThis canโt be life โฆ โ painted above her head.
Another near Third and Fairfax streets features Storm, a Marvel superhero, and a third features Huey Freeman, an animated character from “The Boondocks.”

After months of being covered in cement, glass and tree branches, said Shaddix, the bike lane along Cargo Way has been swept, so bikers can safely ride without having to dodge debris.
