Last week, Carolina, a 39-year-old mother was detained during her mandatory check-in at San Francisco’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office at 630 Sansome St. She was swiftly transported to a detention center in Texas.
Carolina is not alone. Since then, ICE has arrested more than 20 people in San Francisco, and that’s only the arrests that have been publicly documented. Immigration attorneys say the numbers are undoubtedly higher.
As the Trump administration tries to accelerate deportations, it is often going after those who are easiest to nab. As a result, most people were arrested as they went to ICE check-ins or court hearings in person.
The crackdown on immigrants in San Francisco has prompted widespread fear and pushback from local communities.
