One man is dead after being stabbed on Saturday afternoon off of Highway 101 on Bayshore and Cortland Avenue in Bayview.

Bayview Station SFPD responded to reports of a stabbing at 4:35 p.m. and found a man suffering from a knife wound.

“Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent stab wound,” read the statement. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff and emergency responders, he was declared dead at the hospital.

By the time officers responded, the assailant had fled. But soon after, officers searched the area and detained a suspect identified as Daniel Garcia, 51, who matched the description provided to officers.

Garcia was booked into San Francisco County Jail. No details on the age of the victim were provided by SFPD, but Garcia is being held on charges not only for homicide and assault with a deadly weapon, but also elder abuse.

This is the 10th homicide in San Francisco so far this year.
