On March 20, some Mission residents sent in photos from Capp Street and Julian Avenue earlier in the morning. Later, our intern, Ronna Raz followed up with photos between 11 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. The southwest 16th Street BART Plaza continued to get maintenance, and some folks on the northeast plaza were more aggressive and unhappy about their photos being taken, Raz said. There was, however, a police car parked on the northeast plaza.

Marc Soloman, a Mission resident, wrote in and said that, at a community meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Daniel Lurie promised a changed intersection in 100 days.

Founder/Executive Editor. I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

At ML, I've been trying to figure out how to make my interest in local news sustainable. If Mission Local is a model, the answer might be that you - the readers - reward steady and smart content. As a thank you for that support we work every day to make our content even better.

Ronna Raz is an illustrator and intern with Mission Local.

  2. Mr. Mayor,

Now is a time to announce you’re considering a ‘San Francisco Million Dollar Lottery’ which has a First Prize of a tax free million and 100 Second Place prizes of a tax free Ten Grand each.

Right now you’re paying everyone picking up the trash there (except Manny and me lol) but with a collector’s level design Lottery Ticket worth the work by itself, you’ll find that once neighbors see other neighbors picking up trash with the orange bags and pickers and they can buy the tickets at a liquor store like State Lottery ?

    let’s see …

    I double dare you !!

    lol
