Carla Arana and Ivania Cortez, cashiers.
Two young girls stand behind the cashier at Casa Maria Produce Market. One of them is Carla Arana, the daughter of the owner. She works in the store during the summer. “It’s fun to work here,” said Arana.
Cortez, an employee of the store for six months, also likes it because, she says, it lets her meet many new people.
Plus, they both like the snacks they can eat at the store: Pinguinos, a chocolate pastry filled with whipped cream, gansitos, and Choco Roles, two kinds of chocolate-covered Twinkies, the former filled with whipped cream and strawberry jam and the latter filled with pineapple jam.
