A shooting has left a man in life-threatening condition Tuesday morning, police report.

The 24-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk at 26th Street and South Van Ness Avenue just after 2 a.m. when he was shot by an unknown suspect. He was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition, while the suspect remains at large. No suspect description was available.

One nearby resident heard shots early this morning. He said he later conferred with a friend who had been sleeping in her truck parked on 26th Street, who heard four gunshots and then saw a man run past her car.

Other Crimes

A would-be shooting was also reported at 2:17 a.m. on Tuesday at 22nd and Mission streets. Two men, both 23 years old, had been jogging toward two other men, when one man in the second group punched one of the jogging men, seemingly out of nowhere.

The first two men ran away from the man who had thrown the punch, but he then pulled out a gun and shot at them. The two suspects then got into a car driven by a third suspect and fled the scene. No arrests were made and no serious injuries reported.

The owner of the Red Cafe on 25th and Mission streets reported that a man smashed a window with a chair around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, as workers were closing up shop. She said police arrived and chased the man down the street, but it is unclear if an arrest was made.

At 7:02 p.m. on Monday at 18th and Valencia streets, a 36-year-old woman reportedly approached a 63-year-old man to ask him to move. The man then pulled out a knife and slashed at the victim. Police arrested the man, and no injury was reported.

Two men in their early 20s approached a 28-year-old man at 17th and Church streets at 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, pointed a gun at him, and demanded his belongings. The victim was robbed of his backpack, wallet, cell phone and pocket knife, but left uninjured. No arrest has been made.

Later that morning, at 3:45 a.m., a 35-year-old man was struck from behind at 20th and Capp streets, and was knocked to the ground. The suspect, a man estimated to be 25 years old, fled with the victim’s wallet and cell phone. No arrest has been made.
