Tennis star Serena Williams wrote a post on Facebook yesterday highlighting her crime-fighting skills in getting her phone back from a would-be thief. Williams writes of a “superhero inner voice” that tipped her off that the man standing next to her at Mission Chinese Food on Mission street, an “eerie feeling” that the man “was there too long” and that something “just didn’t feel right.”

Lo and behold, the tennis champion seems to have been correct. The man “grabbed my phone [from the chair next to her] and swiftly left,” prompting Williams to “look at the chair, than [sic] shouted “Omg that dude took my phone!!” Williams claims that she then “jumped up, weaved my way in and out of the cozy restaurant…and chased him down,” video evidence obtained by ABC shows her rather calmly getting up and walking quickly to retrieve her phone from a clearly older male.

Williams then confronted the man outside the restaurant on Mission Street, where she says she gave him an out by asking if he might have mistakenly grabbed the wrong phone, to which he replies “Gosh you know what I did! It was so confusing in there. I must have grabbed the wrong phone.” Williams then returned to Mission Chinese, where she says she got a standing ovation for her quick-thinking.

She ended her note reminding women everywhere that “Just because you are a lady don’t be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero!” and for good measure posted a picture of herself in a superwoman costume.

In her own words:

Soooooo yesterday at dinner the CRAZIEST THING happened to me. I was sitting enjoying some Chinese food (delicious may I add) and this guy stands next to me. It was only 2 of us sitting at a 4 person table just chatting like we have not seen each other in years. Anyways I digress, so this guy is standing next to me and something (I have now dubbed it my SUPERHERO sense) told me to watch him. My phone was sitting in the chair but I just didn’t feel right. He was there too long. “Is he a customer?” I thought “Is he waiting on the bathroom?” nonetheless I tried to shake his this eerie feeling. However, I kept watching him from the corner of my eye. Than when least expected low and behold this common petty thief grabbed my phone and swiftly left. I looked at the chair, than shouted “Omg that dude took my phone!!” Not thinking I reacted (hence the superwoman photo) I jumped up, weaved my way in and out of the cozy restaurant (leaping over a chair or two) and chased him down.
