It’s 5:57 am and golden-hour.com tells us that we have a 38 minute window of perfect light for photography. Our block – Mission, 29th, San Jose, 30th – doesn’t look like much from above. Just a Safeway parking lot, right?
Two years spent living across the street from this neighborhood classic, but recently repainted sign taught us this block has much more to offer.
For starters, it has the best tacos in The Mission. Hands down. Never mind that overbearing health inspector.
It has a Front Porch serving comfort food…
…and it has people helping people, since before it was cool.
As we walked around, we saw people working…
…we saw the ghosts of last night…
…and we saw the hardest working people of all.
This block supports vibrant life…
…displays life’s scars…
…and lets rest what once carried life.
Even the undead lurks here.
Like any given San Francisco block, there’s no shortage of pristine architectural heritage…
…contrasted by the derelict.
We found beauty where we least expected.
That’s the contrast of The Mission.
Don’t wait as the blocks are running out! Let us know what day and block you would like at info@missionlocal.com.
You can see a map of all of the blocks here. The blocks in grey are being saved for others who have signed up. Let us save a block for you as well.
