Beauty Bar’s wall is getting a makeover, and new art is coming to Revolution Cafe’s Bartlett street wall as well.
Deb, a full-time artist and recent transplant from Australia, is working on the vintage-inspired mural at 19th and Mission for Beauty Bar in keeping with the locale’s thematic decor. Though the artist is making San Francisco her new home, travel plans have accelerated the timeline for the mural, which may be completed over the next week. Enough time for Deb to become thoroughly sunburnt – the south-facing wall is in direct sunlight most of the day and the artist’s workspace is sweltering.
But in exchange for her hard work, Deb is already getting plenty of appreciation from passers by.
“When you have an 89 year old lady walk past and stop and stare and say oh my gosh that’s so beautiful that’s probably the best compliment you can get. Especially ’cause I’m working with spray cans!”
Over at 22nd and Bartlett, Carmen McNall is working no less diligently with paintbrushes and smaller, finer lines. Her mural, commissioned by Revolution Cafe, may be completed by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, the Medusa mural on 22nd just west of Folsom has been severely defaced by vandals.
I think we need a revolution @ the cafe instead of transients painting have locals paint on our walls especially in the mission where there is alot of gentrification going on and lots to communicate
