Last night, I went to the opening of The Other Barrio. There, before our eyes, was the heartbreaking expression of the reality of La Mision, 2015. Suspicious fires, death, displacement, gentrification were all expressed, recreated in this very timely, beautifully filmed story. Locally produced by Lou Dematteis with direction by Dante Betteo, writing by Betteo, Richard Montoya and Alejandro Murgia, production design by Rene Yanez, and performed by a talented ensemble of actors. Richard Montoya delivers a powerhouse performance of drama, humor, mystery and heartbreak. Another star performer is the beautiful music created by Greg Landau, blending hardcore noir jazz and the energetic latin beat of La Mision. Enlightening.
