Over the long break, the Mission experienced a different holiday haze than say, eating turkey with the pops. So, to get rid of all the FOMO you will be experiencing today while you are back at work, we have set up a list of the news you missed.
Malcom Armstrong loved to skate at the Potrero del Sol Park and he would spend nearly every day there with his friends. Sadly, Armstrong was stabbed in Hayes Valley and died of his wounds. A suspect has already been arrested. Here’s a tribute that his close friends in the Mission put together to remember him.
On Wednesday 26th, local hip hop artist Show Banga had a show at the Brick and Mortar venue in the Mission. It was a sold out concert for fans 18 and up. At around 12:46 a.m, an armed person on Duboce and Mission Streets opened fire and injured six people. Read Show Banga’s post on what happened, and find out more on who helped the injured people.
Perhaps you are thankful for all-you-can-eat sushi buffets or summer weather in the middle of winter, but it’s never too late to think about what you are thankful for. I know, people are thankful to have this mural on 24th and South Van Ness restored.
On Valencia Street, this wall undergoes a constant status update without having to worry about privacy issues.
Black Friday in the Mission was calm and no big crowds on sight during the day. Later that day, however, people took to the streets to protest the Grand Jury decision in Ferguson to not indict Darren Wilson, the cop who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. BART on 24th and Mission was shut down due to civil unrest, police prevented protesters from marching down Valencia Street and glass windows were shattered. Mexico has been all over international media since 43 student teachers were disappeared in Ayotzinapa and later on November 20th, 11 students were arrested at a demonstration in Mexico City. One of the 11 people arrested, Laurence Maxwell, was a Chilean student who has relatives in San Francisco. His family and friends went to the Mexican consulate to request his release from maximum security prison in Veracruz. Maxwell and the other 10 students were released last Saturday after the Mexican District Attorney failed to prove the charges against them.
